    Default Quality Walk Around Lens

Since we have some guys that have really taken the photography skills to a new level, I was looking for a recommendation--either based on what you use, have used, or word of mouth from others. I have a guy looking for a Canon lens that can be used for walking around action-type shots. If you could put down 2 or 3, in a price range, that you can suggest, I would appreciate it. Let's say $400-$1200. Thanks.

I'm not that good, but here's my take

    1. Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 (crop only)
    2. Sigma 17-50 OS f/2.8
    3. Canon EF 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 (cheap)
    4. Canon EF-S 15-85 f/3.5-5.6 (crop only)
    5. Canon EF 24-105 f/4 L
    6. Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8 L (heavy as heck)
    7. Canon EF 17-40 f/4 L

I've owned 5 of 7 lenses above. lol

I picked up a Canon Rebel EOS XS earlier in the year (my first DSLR, love it!) and I have the following two lens:

    EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II
    EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens

I am far from an expert photographer, but the price range you mentioned is pretty decent. The Canon EF-S 18-135mm lens gives you a lot of options from close up to good zoom. Nice all in one solution. Runs about $300 on Amazon, but again, I can barely call myself an amateur photographer at this point.

What do you mean by "action type shots?"

    Lol. Ok L fan boy.

Take the 24-70L in low light area and compare it to EF-S 17-55 IS and see which one produces better IQ.

    24-70L needs IS badly!

My guess, based on his comment, was walking around type movements--I don't think it was high-level sporting event speed. Does that make sense?

^ yeah, makes kinda sense... but just keep in mind that recommendations ppl may give you vary depending on what type of style they shoot. This is why I really want to know in detail what kind of shooting you plan on doing. An "all around" camera such as the 24-70 ppl recommend works GREAT on a full frame, but it's limited on a crop IMO. I think it's best to try shit out before you commit.

My current walk around lens is the 15-85mm EF-S from Canon.
    - The 15mm gives distortion... but that's expected. And the 85mm is enough until i get out the 70-300 lens.
