    Question New member control

Could we put in some type of rule that unless you have something important to say or ask, don't bump old threads back up?

I have noticed that recently there is a lot of new members just bumping 2+ year old threads within 5 min to get post count up by just saying "nice ride" or "awesome". It would be nice to have the mods delete those useless replies to the old threads.

Now if the threads/posts are less then a year old, then I don't really see a problem with that.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

    Thanks.

I have been trying to clean that up and temporarily banning them, but we do need to step up our game.
Maybe limit new members to be registered for 5-10 days in addition to post counts before posting fs threads?

Yeah I think that is a good idea having a 5-10 days wait period

Banning seems a bit excessive for a local forum like this, unless the guy's purposely trolling. Instead of deleting his posts one by one, just change his post count number back to 0.

FWIW, XXX posts + XXX days membership is how we do it on my350z.com.

that's one reason I didn't mention banning in my first post as well

Only problem with not deleting and returning the post count back to 0 is that the new member still gets to bump an already old thread.

Over on ClubLexus, people need to have a minimum # of posts (300-500 posts depending on what item is) and a year's membership or someone to vouch for them before they can sell something.
