One sweet Z32!!!

ChicagoZ.com: What got you hooked to the 300Z that you ended up purchasing it?

Slider: I actually remember the first time I looked at the 300ZX, I was with a friend who owned a 280Z and we stopped at a dealer on a Sunday. Funny thing is, I didn’t like the car and ended up buying a Mazda RX7 Turbo and so did he! I eventually saw the light and traded-in the RX7 for my 1990 300ZX.

ChicagoZ.com: What action does your 300Z mostly see? drag, autox, road race, show car, weekend car, and/or daily driver...

Slider: My Z was purchased on 12/10/90 and currently has 59,960 miles. The car has seen the drag strip three time, has gone on a 1,000 mile road trip around Lake Michigan and wore out a set of tires on the winding Blue Ridge Mountain back roads of West Virginia. Currently I enjoy the driving the car after work, on the weekends and visiting with my new friends at the ChicagoZ.com meets and car shows. It’s fun after all these years to be with a group who really likes the 300Z’s and new G’s.

ChicagoZ.com: Any performance specs? 1/4 mile@mph, whp/wtorq, track times...

Slider: Prior to my current modifications the car ran a 13.10 @ 107 MPH at Rt.66. A few months ago I ran an 11.59 @ 118.6 MPH. The car was pretty consistent with a 1.75 second 0 – 60’ time. Based on these times my 0 – 60 MPH time is calculated at 2.99 seconds. I’m told with a little practice a 1.5 second 0 – 60’ time is very obtainable, this would but me into the 11.2 range. GRD tuned my Unichip piggyback computer on their Dynopac producing 496 RWTQ with 100 octane fuel at 18 PSI. The dyno could not maintain the boost so the HP and TQ dropped off in the upper range. My configuration usually obtains equal HP and torque levels on roller dynos. Also the DynoPac dynos read lower than many of the roller dynos.

ChicagoZ.com: What other modifications are you planning on doing to the 300Z, if any? Whether it's performance, handling, appearance, and/or sound system....

Slider: Not sure how much more I can do! Being the original owner I always wanted to keep the car stock. Last year I started to approach 60,000 miles and never replaced the timing belt, knowing the alternative I decided it was time. On November 31, 2006 I put the Z up on jack stands and one thing led to another until I placed it back on it’s wheels on February 1, 2007. During this time period I completed the 120,000 mile engine overhaul, replaced the shocks, springs, sway bars, installed front and rear adjustable control arms, wheels, tires, intercoolers, exhaust manifolds, turbos, complete exhaust system, installed a gear, stall speed, billet flexplate, rebuilt the transmission, replaced the brakes, intake filters, injectors, boost controller, clear corning & rear tail lights and HID headlights to quickly name a few items! I even waxed it for the first time in 5 years. Now…if I hadn’t of told you what was done and that the car runs mid 11’s, I bet you thought it was stock.
